Anyone can be a singer, but not an artiste: Fahmida

Today marks the 57th birthday of iconic Bangladeshi singer Fahmida Nabi. The birthday of the singer will be celebrated in a befitting manner. On the occasion of her birthday, the singer will attend a show on Channel i ‘Taroka Kathan’ today at 12:30 pm and will also be singing live at 11:25 pm on satellite channel Bangla Vision.

“I and my siblings always tried to follow the principles of my father, Mahmudun Nabi. I never wanted much from my life. My father deeply loved music, and I also tried to do the same and keep singing. Nowadays, many talks about music views, but all I care about is the listeners. Music is not something to be viewed but to be felt. I am still trying to make good songs and hope that people will listen to my songs with interest for ages even after my death. The same goes for all of my siblings,” said Fahmida Nabi.

“Anyone can become a singer, but not everyone can become an artiste. To be an artiste, that person must have to be humble enough, not arrogant. He or she has to have a deep love for music. It’s not like one just did stage shows, earned money, and gained some popularity. That’s not how I’ve become an artiste. A life consistent with respect and honour is what completes the life of a true artiste,” she added.

Apart from doing a live show for Bangla vision and being present at ‘Taroka Kathan’ the singer is also scheduled to attend a live show on satellite channel ATN Bangla tomorrow at 11:15 pm.

Two songs by Fahmida Nabi have been released recently. The songs are ‘Oporanno’ and ‘Kono Mane Nei’.

The song ‘Oporanne’ was penned by Rebeka Zaman and tuned by Durba Chowdhury. On the other hand, lyricist and journalist Omar Faruk Bishal penned the song ‘Kono Mane Nei’ which has been composed by Zia Khan.

Fahmida Nabi was born in Dinajpur in 1966. She is the daughter of the late singer Mahmudun Nabi and the elder sister of singer Samina Chowdhury.

She started her career in 1979. Her first album was Tumi Tulonahina. Fahmida Nabi won the National Film Award as the Best Female Playback Singer in 2007 for her song ‘Lukochuri Lukochuri Golpo’ in the film ‘Aha’.
