Monami stars opposite Chanchal in Srijit’s biopic

The talented Tollywood actress has bagged the female lead in Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Padatik’ where Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury will be seen opposite her. The duo will be seen together on screen for the first time. The film has already created a strong buzz in the industry since its announcement. ‘Padatik’, which is inspired by legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen, will see Monami Ghosh playing Mrinal Sen’s wife Geeta Sen.

According to Indian media, Firdausul Hasan, the producer of the film has confirmed that Monami Ghosh will be seen in the role of Mrinal Sen’s wife where Chanchal Chowdhury will play the role of the celebrated filmmaker. The film also marks Monami Ghosh’s first collaboration with director Srijit Mukherji, where she will be the leading lady of his film.

In an interview with Indian popular news daily, Ghosh said, “This is my first work with Srijit Da. He called me to his office. I couldn’t believe hearing all this. I wanted to dance for joy. But at the same time, it made me nervous. Srijit Da actually threw a big challenge at me.”

“The film will depict Geeta Sen from her childhood to her adulthood. So, we have to take help of prosthetic makeup” said Firdausul Hasan.

Speaking to The Telegraph Online, Srijit said the decision to cast Chanchal as Mrinal Sen was based on two factors. “They share similarities in their facial features. And Chanchal is a supremely powerful actor”. Earlier this year, Srijit had praised Chanchal’s performance in ‘Karagar’ and suggested that the actor “pledge his eyes to acting institutes for future generations to learn”.

Monami said that she has been trying to be Geeta Sen ever since she was offered the role. She said, ‘Srijit Da has given a video clip where Geeta Sen is seen. If everything goes according to plan, Srijit Mukherji will start shooting for the film from the second week of this month.
