Nuhash Humayun’s horror short film ‘Moshari’ and anthology horror series ‘Pett Kata Shaw’ will be screened on the opening day of Dhaka Lit Fest. The inaugural ceremony of the 10th edition of Dhaka Lit Fest will be held 10am on the Bangla Academy premises, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, Nobel Laureate writer Abdulrazak Gurnah and writer Amitav Ghosh will be present.
‘Moshari’, the first Oscar qualifying film in Bangladesh history, executive produced by Academy Award winners Jordan Peele and Riz Ahmed, will be screened today at 2:45pm at AKSB Auditorium followed by an open discussion with writer-director Nuhash Humayun on the growing significance of South Asian horror and tapping into collective Bengali trauma in genre cinema. The session will be moderated by Aporajita Mustafa.
‘Pett Kata Shaw’ is a supernatural anthology film exploring South Asian folklore and superstition—while also reinventing it. Nefarious jinns, fish-hungry wenches, sympathetic sirens as well as musings on the very origin of stories themselves—‘Pett Kata Shaw’ reinvigorates ancient South Asian folk tales and makes sure these dark stories stay undead. The film will be shown at V Novera Hall at 5:15pm.
The cultural programme on day one also features music performances. The students of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay will present the Bengal Classical Music Recital at 6:45pm at AKSB Auditorium. The students will share the same stage with one of the Gurus of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay, Pandit Uday Bhawalkar, who will be accompanied on the pakhawaj by Pratap Awad.
Bangladeshi band Meghdol will perform with Emon Chowdhury and Arfan Mredha Shiblu at the same time at Bardhoman.
