Pantho, Animes, Warda, Armeen to perform at DLF today

Popular Bangladeshi musicians Pantho Kanai, Animes Roy, Warda Ashraf and Armeen Musa will perform at Dhaka Lit Fest (DLF) today.

The Bangladeshi singer-songwriter Armeen Musa will be performing at the Burdwan House of Bangla Bangla Academy. Her performance will begin at 3:00pm.

On the other hand, Pantho Kanai will share the stage with ‘Nasek Nasek’-famed Animes Roy and Warda Ashraf, a member of the Bangladeshi band ‘Ninad’.

The performance will start at 7:00pm at the Burdwan House of Bangla Bangla Academy.

All of them came into the limelight again after their performances in Coke Studio Bangla.

However, for Armeen Musa, her duet song with her mother, ‘Jaago Piya’ which was featured on the Berklee Indian Ensemble’s debut album ‘Shuruaat’ enabled them to be the first Bangladeshis to be nominated for the world’s most prestigious musical awards.

Apart from that, six films will be screened on the second day of the festival at Novera Hall.

The screening will start with ‘Kathal’ directed by Amit Ashraf. The story of the film follows two slum children as they sneak into a posh gated community to steal the world’s largest jackfruit. The film, which started as a simple heist, later turns into an adventure that tests their friendship. The film will screen at 11:15 a.m.

Following ‘Kathal’, the next screening will be ‘Bangla Surf Girls’. Directed by Elizabeth D Costa the film will have two back-to-back screenings. The first one will start at 12:30pm, and the second show will be at 1:45pm. It is a film about three rebellious working-class teenage girls in Bangladesh who escape daily hardship and stifling family lives by riding the waves with their surfboards. Chasing a fleeting and thrilling sense of freedom, the young girls join a local surf club and dare to dream of a life free from drudgery and abuse.

The film ‘Baganiya: Garden of Memories’ directed by Humaira Bilkis will have its screening at 3:00pm. It was filmed over a course of a few months in Bangladesh’s remote tea fields, documenting the incredible lives of three labourers. Through the lives of Padmoluv Bunarjee, Sojoy Yadav and Chandan, Humaira Bilkis weaves a tale of people whose lives are still governed by the framework of the colonial rules, continuing to operate in the tea industry through unappreciated work and exploitation.

At 4:30pm the film ‘Heroine’s One Night’ directed by Tasmiah Afrin Mou will be screened. The film is a short film that deals with the anxiety and stress that actors and actresses face in maintaining appearances, fame, and the future. Another film titled ‘Statement after my poet husband’s death’ by the same director will be screened after that. The film is her debut short film which explores the psychological journey of a woman named Rubi whose ability to feel grief, remorse, and loneliness is in question as she fails to evoke regretful feelings after her husband’s death.

The last screening will be ‘Dear Satyajit’ directed by Proshoon Rahmaan. The show will start at 5:00pm. ‘Dear Satyajit’ revolves around three filmmakers from three different generations whose crafts and lives have been deeply influenced by Ray’s filmography.
