Regional art and film fest ends with Mou’s ‘Egiye Cholo’

The three-day regional art and film festival ‘Reincarnate III’ ended on Friday evening. The closing ceremony of the festival attended by Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union HE Charles Whitely, ambassador, Indian filmmaker Pradipta Ray, and human rights activist from Nepal Sherchan Nabin Simran took place at Mohila Samity’s Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium in Dhaka.

Organised by Bandhu Social Welfare Society (Bandhu), the closing ceremony of the three-day regional art and film festival Reincarnate-3 featured the fashion show ‘Egiye Chalo’ performed by transgender and hijra artists. As visioned in the Sustainable Development Goal- ‘leaving no one behind’, the transgender and hijra community will not back down to advance the country. They will advance through qualified education, art, and empowerment. Social attitudes must shift in order to attain this. Model, actress, and dance artist Sadia Islam Mou presented these issues through the fashion show.

Earlier on Wednesday, State Minister of Culture K M Khalid MP inaugurated the three-day regional art and film festival Reincarnate-3. According to the event’s organisers, the event’s only goal is to raise public awareness and acceptance of transgender and hijra people’s daily hardships through artistic expression.

This year, the festival screened 25 films and documentaries made on transgender and hijra communities from 6 countries in the South Asian region. The three-day art exhibition of 25 artworks was also organized. With this, various performances were held daily wherein transgender and hijra artists took part.
