‘The Odyssey’ underway at Edge Gallery

A solo art exhibition by Md Tokon titled ‘The Odyssey: Crossroads of Dreams and Memories’ is underway at Edge Gallery, Gulshan 2 in the capital.

The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on January 21 on the gallery premises. Featuring a number of 70 artworks, the exhibition is showcasing the artist’s struggles and celebrations during his journey from rural Jhenaidah to New York City.

The primary focus of the artist is to bring expressive colours and melodic areas to the canvas. The exhibition’s theme is the artist’s struggles and celebrations during his journey from rural Jhenaidah to New York. Born in Jhenaidah, he started painting at the age of 10 and continues to paint large canvases as well as works on paper in New York.

The artist lives and works in the United States, where he attended the prestigious Art Students League of New York. Yet his works have deep roots in Bangladesh’s long tradition of abstract painting, of which Tokon singles out the work of the late Mohammad Kibria as an influence.

This exhibition marks the artist’s first solo exhibition after seven years in Dhaka. The show is open to all every day from 10 am to 8 pm until February 16.

Address: Bay’s Edgewater, NE(N) 12, North Avenue, Gulshan 2
