‘Shokhi Rangamala’ to premier today

Theatre troupe BotTala will stage their latest production, ‘Shokhi Rangamala’ today at the main hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). The staging is part of the ‘Aly Zaker Notuner Utshob’.

Directed by Mohammad Ali Haider, the play is based on the novel of the same title, authored by Shaheen Akhter. The screenplay has been written by Samina Luthfa and Soumya Sarkar.

The story revolves around a child bride named Queen Phuleshwari, who raised her voice to establish her rights, which were confined by the class and caste prejudices of 18th-century southern Bengal. The play is an animistic play that comprises the features of a dystopian society like gender discrimination, and at the same time, highlights love, freedom, and women’s empowerment.

‘Shokhi Rangamala’ is the 17th production by the theatre troupe. The production also marks the first production by the troupe after six years

‘Aly Zaker Notuner Utshob festival’ has been jointly arranged by Nagorik Natya Sampradaya and Mongoldeep Foundation. This year’s ‘Notuner Utshob’ began at BSA on January 21 that will end on January 26. Five different theatre troupes will stage five new plays at the festival.
