Theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal is celebrating its 50th founding anniversary this year. The troupe is all set to celebrate it with a plethora of cultural programmes and theatre plays.
The Golden Jubilee Celebration programme of the group will begin today and continue till February 3 at the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). The eight-day-long event will feature different cultural programmes including seminars, instrumental music, publication festivals, and much more.
The inaugural ceremony will take place today at Nandan Mancha of the Shilpakala Academy. The programme will start at 4:30 pm. After that, at 7:00 pm, theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal will stage the play ‘Ora Kadam Ali’. The play has been written and directed by noted actor Mamunur Rashid.
The play ‘Ora Kadam Ali’ hinges on how the oppressed take a stance against social injustice. In the course of the play, Kadam Ali had a speaking impediment, which symbolised the inability of the weaker segment of the society in speaking out against oppression.
Apart from ‘Ora Kadam Ali’, Aranyak Natyadal will stage eight more plays during the eight-day-long event. The plays include both Aranyak’s popular productions and also some new ones. The other plays are ‘Iblis’, ‘Nankar Pala’, ‘Sangkranti’, ‘Raraang’, ‘Moyur Singhashon’, ‘Rajnetra’, ‘Kobor’ and ‘Kohe Facebook’.
Aranyak Natyadal was established on February 1, 1972, with seven founding members. They began their journey by staging ‘Kobor’. Now the troupe has a total of 40 productions and 24 street plays.
There are many renowned actor and actresses of Bangladeshi entertainment industry who were once regular with the theatre troupe. Some of them are, Chanchal Chowdhury, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shamim Zaman, Tamalika Karmakar and many others. Now the group has 40 members.
