‘House of Light’ to screen in Slovenia

Bangladeshi filmmaker Mahmud Hasan Kayesh’s ethnographic short film ‘House of Light’ has been selected for screening at the international festival Days of Ethnographic Film 2023 in Slovenia.

The film is scheduled to screen on February 25 at Slovenian Cinematheque in Slovenia.

‘House of Light’ is a close portrait of one family’s daily life when forced to remain together in their apartment in Dhaka, Bangladesh during the Covid-19 health crisis. Filmed by the director on his mobile phone during the month of Ramadan, the documentary transcends the quotidian and illuminates every day with moments of aesthetic simplicity and ultimately, the spiritual sublime.

Although the filmmaker will not be attending the festival, he expressed his joy about the screening. He is now planning to make a full-length ethnographic film on trains and water gipsies. There were more than 270 submissions from around the world. However, the festival selected only 16 films for their festival.
