Shuchorita’s ‘Daanga’ still adored by fans

Popular actress Baby Helen popularly known by her stage name Shuchorita is remembered by her fans for her remarkable work in the film titled ‘Daanga’. Written and directed by renowned filmmaker Kazi Hayat, the film was released on January 24 in 1992. Actor Manna was the male lead in the film.

The film still airs on Satellite Television on normal days and on various important occasions. Miju Ahmed, Anowara, Dildar, Amol Bose, and Wasimul Bari Rajib also played vital roles in the film alongside others.

Regarding the film, Shuchorita said “It’s been 30 years since I acted in the film ‘Daanga’. Proper direction, a great cast, and brilliant acting have made the film perfect.

I remember that a movie by Fazle Ahmed Benjir was also released at that time. The audience thronged the halls to watch the film ‘Daanga’. At that time, there was no alternative but to go to the cinema. So the audience went to the hall and enjoyed the film. Whenever I am amongst my fans and well-wishers they always praise me for my work in ‘Daanga’ and ‘Hangor Nodir Grenade’. As an actress, this is my greatest achievement. I am Shuchorita because of the love and support of my fans. I have a lot of love and respect for the film industry which persuades me to work to this day”.

Shuchorita entered the film industry through the help of her aunt, Panna, a dance artist herself. She started her acting career as a child artist, playing the role of a boy, in the 1969 film ‘Bablu’.

Shuchorita was cast as the lead actress in the film ‘Shikriti’ in 1972. As an actress, she got her breakthrough in the film ‘Jadur Bashi’ in 1977.

She won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film ‘Hangor Nodi Grenade’ in 1997 and Best Supporting Actress for ‘Meghkonna’ in 2018. She has acted in over 100 movies.
