International School Dhaka-ISD recently honored International Mother Language Day in different languages. They organised cultural programmes in different languages including Bengali, Spanish, Afrikaans, Filipino, French, Japanese and Hindi.
To align with the 2023 International Mother Language Day theme, the school sang a welcome song, ‘Hello my friends,’ in six different languages. It was followed by Ekusher Gaan – Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano – to mark the Bangla Language Movement.
To further enhance the tribute, students performed a musical drama, ‘Ami Banglae Gaan Gai,’ ‘February Song (Gaan), and an alphabet song. Other activities, like dance performances and songs, took place in numerous languages, including Bangla, Spanish, African, Filipino, French, Japanese, and Hindi.
The school performed a song called ‘Africa-Rise up’ in three different African languages: KiSwahili, Afrikaans, Shona, and Nyanja, showing respect for multiple cultures and languages. In the end, all the staff performed a song called ‘We are the World.’ Finally, the secondary and primary principals, Chris Boyle and David Longworth did the closing ceremony.
