Amjad Hossain’s ‘Noyonmoni’ and Nasiruddin Yousuff’s ‘Alpha’ will be screened today at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, as part of the on-going 3rd Bangladesh Film Festival. The screeching will take place at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s National Art Gallery auditorium, as well as all 64 Shilpakala Academy branches in 64 districts.
The film ‘Noyonmoni’ was released in 1976. The film is a portrayal of superstition and the bad impact of village politics. It casts Farooque and Bobita as the leads. It also stars Rowshan Jamil, Syed Hasan Imam, Anwara Begum, and others. Bobita bagged the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film.
Nasiruddin Yousuff’s directorial film ‘Alpha’ stars Alamgir Kabir, Dilruba Hossain Doyel, ATM Samsuzzaman, and others. This film is about a 40-year-old painter, who lives in a wooden and bamboo house on stilts in the middle of a polluted lake on the outskirts of Dhaka City. Alpha’s house serves as his painting. Dogs, roosters, and birds also share the space with him. There are many moments when he feels a oneness with nature and with the birds and animals that surround him. He also feels deeply drawn to an ‘androgynous’ male-female identity. Alpha has neighbours in the nearby slum with whom he has close interaction.
The third Bangladesh Film Festival has begun on February 17 and will end on March 3. The film festival is open to all.
