Theatre troupe Theaterian is going to stage ‘Death of a Salesman’ today at 7:00pm at Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity, Baily Road in the capital. The play was originally written by American playwright Arthur Miller in 1948 and produced in 1949. Ashiqur Rahman Leeon directed the play for the evening.
‘Death of a Salesman’ is the story of the dreams of the middle class that never come true in capitalist societies. It is a two-act tragedy set in 1940s New York and told through a montage of memories, dreams, and arguments of the protagonist, Willy Loman, a traveling salesman who is disappointed with his life and appears to be slipping into senility.
The audience gets to see the hardships faced by Willy, who portrays middle-class Americans, during the conversation that takes place between Willy and his wife in the kitchen.
The play contains a variety of themes, such as the American Dream, the anatomy of truth, and infidelity. It explores the psychological chaos of the protagonist, and the capitalist society’s impact on his life.
The price of the tickets for the show is Tk 1,000, Tk 500, and Tk 300 based on seating arrangements, and only a few special tickets are Tk 100 for the show. The group is also offering some discounts.
