Bangladesh Film Festival to screen 3 films today

The 3rd Bangladesh Film Festival will screen three films at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s National Art Gallery auditorium and all Shilpakala Academy branches in 64 districts today.

The festival will screen Shahneoyaj Cacoly’s ‘Uttarer Sur’, Mir Sabbir’s ‘Raat Jaga Phool’ and Rubaiyat Hossain’s ‘Shimu- Made In Bangladesh’ at 3:00pm, 5:00pm and 7:00pm respectively.

Uttarer Sur, released in 2012, revolves around the life story of a street singer and his little daughter, who live from hand to mouth by singing, and their day-to-day experiences while performing in the streets. The film casts Utpal, Meghla, Lucy Tripti Gomes, Aditya Alam, Jahangir Alam, Chhandamoni, and others.

Mir Sabbir’s government grant-winning film ‘Raat Jaga Phool’ was released in 2021. The film’s cast includes Sabbir himself along with Fazlur Rahman Babu, Jannatul Ferdous Oishee, Abu Huraira Tanvir, Rashed Mamun Apu, and Tanin Tanha, among others. The story of the film revolves around a boy from the village who was murdered, and a dog saw that killer and told Rois about the murderer, but Rois could not talk to anybody about the murderer because nobody would care about a madman and the country’s law would not accept his speech.

Rubaiyat Hossain’s internationally acclaimed film ‘Shimu- Made in Bangladesh’ was released last year in Bangladesh. In light of the role of the garment industry in empowering women and achieving self-reliance in Bangladesh, the story of the struggle and success of determined women garment workers has been narrated in the film ‘Shimu’. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and was screened at the 63rd BFI London Film Festival. The film has also been acclaimed and awarded at various international film festivals.

The film stars Rikita Nandini Shimu, Novera Hossain, Dipanbita Martin, Parveen Paru, Mayabi Maya, Mostafa Monwar, Shatabdi Wadud, Jayraj, Momena Chowdhury, Wahida Mallick Jolly, and Samina Lutfa in different roles.
