Eight songs by Gazi Mazharul announced

IPDC Amader Gaan has announced the re-composition and release of eight songs by the late award-winning lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar on the occasion of his 80th birthday celebration during a program.

Planned by Rashid Khan, the songs have been composed by Emon Saha.

Mazharul’s daughter Dithi Anwar made the announcement at a programme titled Alok Sondhya at her residence in Gulshan of the capital.

Meanwhile, ‘Tumi Arekbar Ashia’, a song written by Mazhar, was released on the occasion on the ‘IPDC-Amader Gann-YouTube channel. Originally sung by Rathindranath Roy with music by Alauddin Ali, the new version has been voiced by Animes Roy.

The event was organised by the family of Gazi Mazharul Anwar, especially his wife Zohra Gazi and his two children Upol and Dithi. The stars of the country’s cultural arena attended the event alongside relatives of Gazi Mazharul Anwar.

Shuchanda, Suborna Mustafa, Ferdous Ara, Bapparaj, Champa, Rumana Islam, Omar Sani, Moushumi, Ferdous, Tarin, Ananta Jalil, Barsha, Misa Sawdagar, Arifin Shuvoo, Nipun and Chanchal Chowdhury among others came to pay their respect as well.

Dithi Anwar said, “Everyone loves my father so much that they rushed to the event once I invited them. I am grateful towards them. This really touched my heart deeply. It was a wonderful reunion of several generations who loved my father. Heartfelt gratitude to the IPDC family and everyone for this event.”

At the beginning of the programme on Thursday, Upol-Dithi showed respect and expressed their feelings for their father. Zohra Gazi, Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s younger brother Imrul Anwar Liton and others also spoke on the occasion.

Upol said, “Today’s beautiful golden evening and this unprecedented event was arranged for my father. He was the pride of our family and our country. Words cannot express how happy Abbu would have been if he had seen this arrangement with his own eyes.

“We are very grateful to all the guests for coming to the event. My father will live in the prayers and love of all of you. My father will remain in the air of Bengal through the songs he created and thanks to the IPDC family”.

Apu Aman performed the newly released song at the beginning of the event. Then one by one Anupama Mukti, Dithi, Upol, Rizia Parveen, Mimi Alauddin, Shahanaz Bely, Sabbir Zaman, Champa Banik, Sushmita, Nandita along with Chanchal Chowdhury and Shaon performed other songs written by Mazharul.

Mazharul passed away in September last at the age of 79 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was born on February 22, 1943 to lawyer Mozammel Hossain and Khodeja Begum in Daudkandi, Cumilla. Throughout his life, he had penned over 25,000 songs.
