‘JK 1971’ to be released on March 3

The trailer of Fakhrul Arefeen Khan’s film ‘JK 1971’ Bangladesh’s first English language movie on the 1971 Liberation War, was released online Saturday. Co-produced by Gorai Films and Tanvir A Mishuk, the film will be released on March 3.

Based on a true incident, the film features the real-life story of Jean Kay, a young Frenchman, who hijacked a plane of Pakistan International Airlines just after the vehicle took off on December 3, 1971, in Paris, demanding 20 tonnes of emergency child medicine for Bangladeshi refugees during the Liberation War.

Regarding ‘JK 1971’, director Fakhrul Arefeen Khan said, “We watch movies made on World War I, World War II, Afghan war and even Somalia war. But there are no movies of our country’s Liberation War in English for the international audience. So we decided to make this movie. The film is releasing on March 3. I hope, through this film I can take the young Frenchman Jean Couy to people’s hearts.”

The film has already won the Best Historical Film Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival. The film also marks the first English-language film in the country based on the history of the Liberation War.

The film features American Francisco Raymond, West Bengal’s Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sourav Shuvro Das, and Indrajit Mazumder; Russian actors Deria Gvrusenko, Nikolai Novominaski, and 36 foreign artists from the US, UK, and Spain.

Renowned screenwriter Masum Reza and director Arefeen worked on the screenplay of the film.
