With the slogan ‘Sompritir Sangskriti Anbei Mukti’, the weeklong ‘Bangladesh Street Theatre Festival’ (Bangladesh Patho Natya Utsab) will begin on Wednesday on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
The inaugural ceremony of the festival followed by award ceremony will be held today at 4:30pm. A number of 38 theatre personalities will be honoured at the event. Noted thespian Mamunur Rashid will inaugurate the festival, while Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus will be present as chief guest. Presided over by President of Street Theatre Council Mizanur Rahman, General Secretary Ahmed Gias will deliver the welcome speech at the event.
After the inauguration, three street dramas will be staged at the event.
This year, a total of 35 plays by the theatre troupes of inside and outside Dhaka will be staged during the weeklong ‘National Street Theatre Festival’. Every day the plays will be staged at 4:30pm on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar. As a part of the theatre movement of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, the festival has been taking place since 1986.
