‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ famed Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhan is now cautiously selecting scripts to work with to change the male-dominant character of the Bangladeshi entertainment industry where most of the contents are usually based on male characters.
The actress is currently shooting for a web series titled ‘Delta 2051’.
The Hoichoi original web series casts the actress in the role of ‘Priscilla’. Directed by Krishnendu Chattopadhyay, ‘Delta 2051’ is set in a dystopian future in Bangladesh.
“The story of the web series is a women-centric story. The web series will show the country in the future. It will show a particular crisis in the future. I’ve stated before that I want to work with women-centric stories, and now it feels more like a challenge to me,” said Badhan.
“It is often said that in Bangladesh, people don’t accept women-centric content. All they accept are the stories where women are subjected to noble or evil ones. People are yet to be ready to accept that women also have multiple shades in their lives. I feel that people in general are not comfortable watching a woman in different shades. I think when more people start to watch what makes them uncomfortable; gradually they will start accepting that women go through a variety of crises too. I’m trying to be vocal about that as much as I can, but it’s up to the directors whether they want to step up and make a change,” the actress added.
The series also casts Intekhab Dinar and Rawnak Hasan.
Syed Ahmed Shawki is the executive producer of the series, and it is produced by Mir Mukarram Hossain, with Tanim Noor serving as creative producer.
Badhan’s Chorki original OTT series ‘Guti’ was released in January. The seven-part series, directed by Shankha Das Gupta, depicts the actress as a drug dealer named Sultana.
Earlier, Badhan also worked in the Bollywood industry for Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Khufiya’ where she played the role of a Bangladeshi woman. ‘Khufiya’ is an adaptation of Amar Bhushan’s espionage novel ‘Escape to Nowhere’.
Marking Badhan’s debut in Bollywood, the film also features Tabu, Ali Fazal, Ashish Vidyarthi and Wamiqa Gabbi.
