FFSB to celebrate golden jubilee thru year-long event

The Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB) has arranged a year-long event to celebrate its golden jubilee, along with sixty years of film society movement in Bangladesh.

As a part of the year-long celebrations, a film screening festival featuring stories, documentaries and short-films made in the five decades after the independence of Bangladesh, will be held. The film festival will be held from October 18 to 28 at National Art Gallery auditorium of BSA. The 30 selected films from the three categories will be awarded the ‘Best Film of Bangladesh’s 50 Years’.

The announcement was made by Belayet Hossain Mamun, General Secretary of FFSB, at a press conference at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.

A five-member committee, featuring prominent film-researcher and writer Anupam Hayat, has been formed to select films and documentaries released in five decades. Mostafa Monwar will be the chairman of the 11-member jury committee for the selection of the film.

As part of the year-round celebrations, a festival featuring films made by film parliament members will take place between June 8 and 17. An international seminar on the Film Parliament Movement of Bangladesh will be organised in September.

The FFSB will also organise workshops on film education in 10 districts of the country—namely Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Rangpur, Khulna, Kushtia and Rangamati. The year-long celebrations will end on October 28.
