‘Radio’ is a must-watch for young generation: Elina Shammi

Anonno Mamun’s film ‘Radio’ has been released on yesterday on the occasion of the birthday of the ‘Father of the Nation’. The film casts Elina Shammi as one of the leads.

The film portrays the impact of radio in rural areas of the country during the time of the liberation war and prior to that period. “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 7th March Speech is an important part of the history of Bangladesh. Many of the mass audience already know about how the speech spread and its impact all over the country in 1971. Almost every one of us knows how many difficulties we had to face before gaining our liberation. This film revolves around the impact of the historic event in a village,” said Shammi.

“The film can be considered a must-watch for the young generation, especially for those like me who did not witness the historic speech of the father of the nation, as the film is a representation of history. ‘Radio’ tried to depict 1971 and explain how much Bangabandhu’s speech inspired freedom-loving people across the country to join the war. So, I would say - the young generation of the country should go and watch the film in theatres to know the exact history of the country’s liberation war,” she added.

The film has been released at 7 theatres across the country. The halls are- Star Cineplex (Bashundhara City), Blockbuster Cinemas (Jamuna Future Park), Lion Cinemas (Old Dhaka), Ulka (Gazipur), Roots Cineclub (Sirajganj), Madhuban (Bogra) and Silver Screen (Chattogram).

According to the director Anonno Mamun, the film was highly praised by the members of the Bangladesh censor board.

The storyline takes place in 1971, on March 2, when the first map of Bangladesh was unveiled at a student gathering at Dhaka University’s Battala. The vice president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union, ASM Abdur Rab, hoisted the flag. On March 7, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman addressed the nation at the Race Course Ground. The speech also reached people throughout the country through radio. The film is about the contribution of radio to convey the message of the great liberation war in these seven days.

The film casts Riaz, Zakia Bari Mamo, Lutfur Rahman George, Nader Chowdhury, and Pran Ray, among others, in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Shammi-starrer films ‘Chayabrikkha’, ‘Jolrong’ and ‘Maddhyabitta’ are in the pipeline for release.
