Dhallywood actor Shakib Khan went to Gulshan Police Station on Saturday night to file a case against producer Rahmat Ullah for extortion and false allegations. However, Gulshan police did not record it and advised him to take it up in court.
The actor and his lawyer Khairul Hasan had a detailed discussion with the police for about an hour and a half. Afterwards, he addressed the reporters waiting outside regarding his next steps.
“We wanted to file our case under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion. This type of case is usually lodged at the police station. That’s why we came here to lodge our case. But we don’t know why the officer-in-charge [OC] didn’t consider our complaint,” Shakib said.
“Instead of recording our case at the police station, the OC advised us to file it in the court,” he said.
Without sharing details, Gulshan police officials told reporters that they could not start a case over Shakib’s complaint as this kind of complaint should be made in the court instead of a police station.
Shakib claimed that Rahmat Ullah is not the producer of his 2017 film “Operation Agneepath.” “Rahmat demanded money from me by using the film’s name. If you would ask the producer’s association and Vertex Media, you will find out that he isn’t a producer of this movie.”
“Mohammed Jane Alam is the producer of this film made under the banner of Vertex Media. Rahmat Ullah is a fraud and I will take my case against him in court,” he added.
On March 15, Rahmat submitted a written complaint against Shakib to three associations of distributors, directors and actors under the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) about several seven-year-old incidents, including alleged sexual misconduct by the film star.
Rahmat claimed Shakib raped and physically injured an Australian female co-producer at a hotel room in New South Wales during the cast and crew’s stay in Australia for the film’s shooting.
The woman, who was of Bangladeshi origin, later filed a case against Shakib and Rahmat said he was a witness.
Rahmat in his complaint also claimed that Shakib was detained by Australian police over the case during his visit in 2018. But he managed to go free as the victim did not come forward fearing social stigma and harassment.
Media reports, however, said that there was no record of such a case against Shakib at the time.
In the complaint, Rahmat also alleged that Shakib did not follow the production schedule and used to cancel the daily filming schedule without prior notice, causing financial losses.
On Sunday afternoon, Shakib also went to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch office to discuss his complaints against Rahmat.
Later in the day, he told an English national daily that Rahmat’s allegations against him were ridiculous and that no one in Australia even knows about these allegations. Shakib claimed that Rahmat was a fraud and was trying to harass him by levelling false allegations.
