Tarua to stage ‘Adam Surat’ today at BSA

Theatre troupe Tarua will be staging its latest production, ‘Adam Surat’ today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). The drama will be staged for three consecutive days starting today at 7:30pm.

There will be two staging of the play tomorrow – at 3:30pm and 7:30pm – respectively. On April 1, the play will be staged at 7:30pm at the same venue.

The play ‘Adam Surat’ has been written and directed by Bakar Bakul.

The play, ‘Adam Surat’, is a composite form of isolated scenarios that draw content from the events that happen every day. Emotional questions take precedence over any sequential story or grammatical dramatisation, making it a unique theatrical experience. The play follows the story of Hisabul, who finds himself buried underground, awaiting the account of Munkar Nakeer. His childhood, adolescence, and youth growing up in Baludhum village form the backdrop of his memories. The play features several shocking incidents, including the genocide of dogs, the emigration of a humiliated teacher, and the sight of a cow’s severed head.

The play also delves into the lives of various characters, such as an unemployed accountant, a father who lost his hand in a jute mill, and a coolie who finds a human toe in a local butcher’s meat. The play offers a powerful commentary on the ever-increasing inhumanity around us, with state policymakers being the biggest opportunistic beneficiaries of this habit.

The tickets are available for Tk 300, Tk 500 and Tk 1,000 each.

The troupe has strictly forbidden anyone who is under 18 to enjoy the drama.
