Dolly Zahur debuts as a director

Renowned Bangladeshi actress Dolly Zahur, who was honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s National Film Award’, now debuting herself as a director.

Dolly Zahur for the first time has directed a telefilm titled ‘Darkak’, recently which was written by her. The telefilm is set to air on Channel i in the first week of April.

Dolly Zahur is thrilled to have finished the production and is looking forward to the audience’s reaction. Expressing her feelings about the telefilm, Dolly Zahur said, “I have been planning the story of the ‘Darkak’ telefilm for quite some time. When I expressed my interest in direction to Ebne Hasan Khan of Channel i, I never thought I would get so much inspiration.”

She expressed her gratitude towards Channel i, actor Tanzika Amin, and Asaj Zobair for their support during the production of the telefilm.

Tanzika Amin, said, “It is my pleasure to act in the first telefilm directed by our beloved Dolly Zahur. She has made the telefilm with such care. From the beginning of my acting career, I got a lot of support from her and she was the first one who told me to play the character. She advised me to live the character, nurture it and then act like that character. That’s what I tried to do.”

Dolly Zahur is currently working on new serials and dramas around Eid.

Earlier Dolly Zahur received two National Film Awards as well as the Bangladesh Chalachchitra Sangbadik Samiti Award, better known as Bachasas Award.

A seasoned thespian, Dolly Zahur has acted in over 150 films as well as television dramas. Bangladesh Film Archive has made a documentary on her life and career.

Dolly Zahur was born in Dhaka on July 16, 1955. She was active in theatre while

studying at Dhaka University’s Department

of Sociology.
