‘Nakshi Kanthar Jamin’ wins award at Bengaluru

The government-funded film ‘Nakshi Kanthar Jamin’ (A Tale of Two Sisters) has won the Best Film award at the 14th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival in India. Produced by TM Films and directed by Akram Khan, the film depicts the history of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

The film shared third place in the Asian competition section with ‘Viratapura Viraagi’. 14 other films competed under this section. However, the Indonesian film ‘Before Now and Then’ wins first place and the Iranian film ‘Motherless’, while ‘Sand’ took second place. The 14th edition of the film festival started on March 23.

Director Akram Khan expressed his joy about winning the award, stating, “We are very happy to have won this award after competing with other films of the country and abroad.” He also acknowledged the film’s talented actors and actresses, as well as the production company TM Films for their contribution to the film’s success. He expressed his hopes for working with more responsibility in the future.

The movie, based on the story ‘Bidhobar Katha’ by Hassan Azizul Haque, depicts the 1971 Liberation War.

The film stars Jaya Ahsan, Fariha Shams Sheuti, Iresh Zaker, Rawnak Hasan, Soumya Jyoti, and Dibya Jyoti, among others.
