‘Dear Satyajit’ releasing on May 2

The trailer for the tribute film ‘Dear Satyajit’ (Priyo Satyajit) has been released on the 31st death anniversary (23 April) of the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The film is produced by Imation Creator, Bangladesh and directed by Proshoon Rah-man. The film is scheduled to release on Satyajit Ray’s upcoming birthday on May 2, 2023.

The trailer starts with a young filmmaker (Moutushi Biswas), narrating quotations from Satyajit Ray’s book. She wants to make a documentary on Asif, a senior filmmaker played by Ahmed Rubel, who has been influenced by Satyajit Ray through-out his life. The film aims to tell the unfulfilled dream of a Bengali filmmaker who constantly tried to reach the artistic quali-ty and standard of his idol. It eventually becomes a tribute to the Master Filmmaker itself, commemorating his birth cen-tenary celebration.

‘Dear Satyajit’ has been well-received in international film festivals, including its international premiere at the South Asian Film Festival in Vancouver, Canada, in November 2022, followed by screenings at the Florence International Film Festival in Italy and the Kerala International Film Festival in India. Actor Ahmed Rubel has won the Best Actor award in the Feature Film category at the 15th Jaipur International Film Festival 2023 (JIFF) for his performance in the film. The film also won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Sound and Edit under the same category.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Moutushi Biswas, Pankaj Majumder, Saeed Babu, Sangeeta Chowdhury, Labonno Chowdhury, Ehsanul Haque, Nusrat Jahan, and Abir.
