Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s much-acclaimed film ‘Hawa’ became a game changer in the Bangladeshi film industry. The film has not just blown up a crazy storm in Bangladesh but also in Kolkata, the United States, Canada, Australia, and so on. Yet there were multiple controversies centring the film from time to time.
The latest controversy started when Indian media reported that the famous song ‘Aat Ta Baje Deri Korish Na’ had been used without the proper courtesy given to the original musician.
The whole issue started when Indian media recently reported that the original composer and the lyricist of the song was Moniruddin Ahmed, as claimed by Biswajit Das, a member of the Bharatiya Gananatya Sangha.
Although, according to the director, the issue has already been sorted out and the makers are now taking appropriate measures.
“The issue has been sorted out already. We have contacted the musician with the help of Indian journalists. After that, we came to know that the song has been originally his song. He also came to know about the song recently as he also lives in a remote area and also is an elderly person. When he came to know about the song he claimed its right. We came to know of it through the media,” said Mejbaur Rahman Sumon.
Sumon said they have contacted Moniurrdin and informed him that it was an unintentional mistake and he also understood the fact. “He knows that his song has been sung by many and it’s hard to find the original composer. We also assured him of giving proper credit for the song,” added Sumon.
According to Sumon, the whole thing started when they were making the film five years ago and decided to use the song they were unable to track the original composer and lyricist. They first heard the song from Basudeb Das Baul and decided to use the song with his voice. Even during the recording the makers searched for the original lyricist and composer but were unable to find the musician so they used the song as a collected folk song. Now that the team know Moniruddin Ah-med is the maker of the song they are working to make it right by giving him the credit for the song everywhere that is pos-sible.
As per the reports, songwriter Moniruddin Ahmed is now over 80 and is a resident of Birbhum in the Indian state of West Bengal. The song was written in 1986 and there was a company that recorded the song for a Cassette back then where they gave the courtesy to the singer. Later the song spread from one to another. Many singers like Swapna Chakrabarti, Aminur Rashid, Basudeb Das Baul and Jiten Nandi covered the song.
Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is currently not working on any film. However, he is busy with his band. A new song will be soon released by his band Meghdol. Along with that two more songs by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon will be out in the upcoming months.
Earlier, Sumon worked with Coke Studio Bangla on the song ‘Bonobibi’. Although he was not present at the recording as he was attending a film festival in Kolkata, he penned the song jointly with Shibu Kumer Shill.
