A two-week long group art exhibition titled ‘Dukkho theke Mukto: Banglar Buddha’ (From Suffering to Liberation: Buddha of Benga) will begin today at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD), dhanmondi in the capital.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held on today at 5:00 pm at its La Galerie.
Organised by Oriental Painting Study Group and curated by Mikhail I Islam, Learning Design Studio; the event will be inaugurated by the Buddhist Vante Sanghananda Mohathero, High Priest Sylhet Bouddho Bihara, as chief guest. Chairperson of Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts Nilu Rowshon Murshed, François Grosjean, Director, Alliance Française de Dhaka and Dr. Saymon Zakaria, Bangladeshi folk researcher and Deputy Director of the Development of Culture, Bangla Academy, will attend the ceremony as special guests.
Bringing together 50 artists from Bangladesh and West Bengal, India, this exhibit explores traditional expressions of Buddhist Sacred Art within the region. The exhibition seeks to capture the profound power and salvific nature of Buddhist Art, which have always served as crucial aids in guiding souls from their existential suffering to ultimate spiritual liberation.
The exhibition will be open to all Monday to Saturday from 3 pm to 9 pm, until May 15. Closed on Sunday.
