Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha is going to hold the 34th National Rabindra Sangeet Festival marking the 162nd Rabindra Jayanti in Dhaka.

The two-day festival will be held at the International Mother Language Institute Auditorium on May 12-13.

The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Karis ne laj, karis ne bhoy, apanake tui kare ne joy.’

Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha will also honour two talented musicians – guitarist Enamul Kabir and Rabindra Sangeet singer Lily Islam – in this year’s festival.

On the opening day, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will hand them over crests and certificates in recognition of their contribution to music.

The minister will also attend the inaugural session as chief guest with the executive president of the organisation Amina Ahmed in the chair.

Performers are now busy in rehearsals every evening at the residence of the executive president of the organization Amina Ahmed. Under the leadership of the organization’s general secretary Piyush Barua, more than a hundred artists will be participating in the festival.

Tapan Mahmud, the president of the organisation, is providing the artistes with necessary guidance virtually through digital technology as he is staying outside the country.

The Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha announced the details of the 34th Rabindra Sangeet Festival at a press conference at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Auditorium of the National Press Club on Saturday.

Amina Ahmed presented the main features of this year’s festival and the future plans regarding the festival and the organisation. Tapan Mahmud also participated in the press conference virtually from Australia.

Renowned vocalist and lifelong member of the organisation Rafiqul Alam, singers Tanzima Tama, Aniket Acharya, Kanak Khan, Abdur Rashid, Rifat Jamal, Sharmila Chakraborty, Ahmad Maya Akhtari, Zafar Ahmed, Nirjher Chowdhury, among others, were present at the press conference.

“Various obstacles are created in the way of development of culture and it takes us back to Rabindranath again and again. Rabindranath is relevant to our national and daily life,” she said adding, “We want to fight for building a beautiful culture free of corruption for the future generations by developing healthy music. Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha has been working towards that goal for 35 years. This movement will continue in the future.”

Tapan Mahmud, in his virtual speech, said, “This organisation is working tirelessly to keep people constantly stimulated by culture and will continue to do so in the future.”

“The great purpose of Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha has been running since its foundation and will continue in the future as well. No matter how many obstacles come, this organisation will not deviate from its noble purpose,” he added.
