Shilpakala celebrates Tagore’s birth anniv

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy began an art camp titled Rang Tulite Rabindranath as part of its celebration of the 162nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

The camp started on May 8 and will continue until May 14 simultaneously in Dhaka, Shaliaidaha in Kushtia, Shahajadpur in Sariajganj, Patisar in Naogaon, Dakshinadihi, and Pathibhog in Khulna. Sixty artists are participating in the event.

The academy is also holding various programmes across the country.

‘Rang Tulite Rabindranath’, featured artwork done by various artists on various subjects of Rabindranath Tagore’s life views, poetry, songs, and paintings.

Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, inaugurated the event.

There is also an exhibition that features 45 artworks of Rabindranath Tagore himself.

The exhibition is open to the public and is held at Gallery 4 of the Jatiya Chatrishala.

As part of the celebrations, a discussion was held on Tuesday, at the National Theater Hall. The discussion was attended by Dr Sarkar Abdul Mannan, and Dr Mahfuza Sultana Hilali, who highlighted the importance of Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy. They also spoke about the importance of developing a relationship with nature and the world.

“All over the world, people have created a distance from nature, capitalist civilization is consuming everything. This can be undone by following Rabindranath’s philosophy,’’ said Dr Sarkar Abdul Mannan.

Liaquat Ali Lucky emphasised the importance of Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy and love in building a better society.

“Rabindra’s thoughts and love are part of the nature concept, but currently we do not have a system to make our children associated with nature and include that in our education system. It is important to develop students’ relationships with the people of the world. In the year 2041, Bangladesh is expected to be a developed and prosperous country. There should be a plan for children, a plan for women, and a plan for senior citizens in it. In this way, the relationship of students with society, nature, and global people will develop,” said Liaquat Ali Lucky.

The event also featured cultural performances by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Shishu Sangeet group, Swati Sarkar, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, Kamalika Chakrabarti, Azjiur Rahman Tuhin, and many others.
