To honour the birth centenary of the legendary Bengali filmmaker Mrinal Sen, the Moviyana Film Society has organised a special discussion programme, highlighting the life and works of the iconic director. The event, which will feature esteemed guests from the film and art industry, aims to pay tribute to Mrinal Sen’s contributions to the world of cinema.
The commemorative event will take place on May 13 at 5:30 pm at the Pathak Assembly in Kantaban, Dhaka. The programme will feature a panel discussion led by renowned filmmakers, film teachers, photographers, art critics, and artists who will delve into the life and works of Mrinal Sen. Filmmaker Masihuddin Shaker, film teacher Haider Rizvi, photographer Nasir Ali Mamun, art critic Moinuddin Khaled, and artist Sabyasachi Hazra will be among the notable personalities sharing their insights and perspectives on Mrinal Sen’s artistic journey.
Presiding over the event will be filmmaker and writer Belayat Hossain Mamun, a respected figure in the film community. The program will be conducted by filmmaker Adri Hrudayesh, the General Secretary of the Muviana Film Society, who will guide the audience through the engaging discussion.
As part of the celebration, a special commemorative poster will be unveiled, highlighting Mrinal Sen’s remarkable cinematic legacy. Additionally, the Moviyana Film Society will announce its year-long plan to honour Mrinal Sen’s birth centenary, showcasing various events and initiatives that will pay tribute to the renowned filmmaker.
The event, aimed at appreciating Mrinal Sen’s contributions to cinema, is open to all film enthusiasts, students, and members of the public who wish to commemorate the birth centenary of this influential filmmaker.
Mrinal Sen, a visionary filmmaker, was born on May 14, 1923, in Jhiltuli, a village in the Sadar area of Faridpur district, which was part of East Bengal at that time. After completing his secondary and higher secondary education in Faridpur, he moved to Kolkata, West Bengal, where he would later establish himself as a pioneering figure in Indian cinema. Known for his honest and thought-provoking films, Mrinal Sen played a significant role in shaping the subcontinent’s cinematic landscape.
