Pori Moni starrer ‘Maa’ to premier at Cannes

In an exciting development for the Bangladeshi film industry, the film ‘Maa’, directed by Aranyo Anawer and featuring popular actress Pori Moni, is set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival.

The film, which revolves around the theme of the Liberation War, will make its domestic release on May 19, coinciding with Mother’s Day.

Confirming the news, director Aranyo Anawer said, “This is great news for our film, ‘Maa.’ It feels great to be blessed with this honour.” He hoped that the Bangladeshi audience will extend their support to ‘Maa’ when it hits theatres.

In ‘Maa’, Pori Moni takes on the role of a mother, portraying the emotional journey of a mother in the backdrop of the 1971 Liberation War. Alongside her, Farzana Chobi plays a major role in the film.

The announcement of the Cannes premiere has brought immense joy to Farzana. “The news that ‘Maa’ will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival has moved me greatly. Tears are coming to my eyes. I’m overjoyed,” she said.

The film’s release date was officially announced during an event held at a city hotel, where the promotional materials, including the trailer and poster, were unveiled.

Adding to the film’s significance, Pori Moni herself experienced a profound emotional journey during its making, as she was four months pregnant at the time. When she initially signed the film, she had no idea that she would become a mother while working on the film, adding a deeper layer of connection to her role.

Apart from Pori Moni and Farzana Chobi, the film features a talented cast, including Sariful Razz and Azad Abul Kalam, Sazu Khadem, Shahadat Hossain, and others. ‘Maa’ depicts the sentiments of a mother grappling with grief and despair after the loss of her seven-month-old baby, set against the backdrop of the historic Liberation War.
