Theatre troupe Shobdo Nattyacharcha Kendro will stage its production ‘Ki Chaho Shankhachil’ today at 7 pm at the StudioTheatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The play will be stage as a part of the week-long ‘Syed Badruddin Hossain Smriti Natya Utsab’ (Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Theatre Festival) organised by Padatik Natya Sangsad. This is the eighth production of the troupe.
The story of the play revolves around Roushnara, who was raped by the Pak Army during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. With the independence of the country, the Roushara returned home after being freed from the Pakistani cells. Everyone in the family was happy with Raushnara’s return, but their greed for self-establishment was there. By capitalizing on the tragic narrative of Raushnara’s life, her husband and in-laws have all gained social status and prestige. After gaining what they wanted, Roushnara’s husband and father-in-law soon start to doubt her child Lalon. Although this child was her husband’s offspring, it was not easy to believe before sharing the good news of pregnancy with her husband as the Pak Army took her to the army camp.
Her child Lalon was used as a means of self-establishment, but then the family members strangled him to death. After witnessing the murder, Roushnara was identified as a mentally unstable patient and had to spend her life in a mental hospital.
As a part of the festival, Theatre Factory will stage its production ‘The Respectful Prostitute’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA, while Aranyak Natyadal will stage their production ‘Nankar Pala’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall today at the sme time.
