Shaheen Samad to receive Nazrul Award

Celebrated singer Shaheen Samad is set to be honoured with the prestigious Nazrul Award-2023 by the esteemed Bangla Academy in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the realm of Nazrul Geeti. The award serves as a testament to Samad’s extensive body of work and her tireless efforts to promote and popularize the art of Nazrul Geeti.

On the occasion of the 124th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bangla Academy has organised the Nazrul Award-2023 ceremony and cultural programme on May 24.

During the ceremony, Shaheen Samad will be presented with a cheque, certificate, and memento, acknowledging her remarkable contributions to the field of Nazrul Geeti. It is noteworthy that Samad was previously bestowed with the prestigious Ekushey Padak in 2016 by the Government of Bangladesh for her outstanding contributions to Nazrul Geeti.

Expressing her joy and gratitude upon receiving the award, Shaheen Samad shared her thoughts, stating, “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to receive numerous accolades, each of which brings me happiness and excitement. However, this particular award holds a special place in my heart as it is the Nazrul Award. It will serve as a tremendous source of inspiration for me to further dedicate myself to the practice of Nazrul Geeti.”

Shaheen Samad is widely recognised as one of the torchbearers of Nazrul Geeti in Bangladesh. Her expertise and unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting the works of Kazi Nazrul Islam have garnered her international acclaim. Notably, Samad was an esteemed artist of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, which played a pivotal role in inspiring millions during the Liberation War of 1971.

The Nazrul Award-2023 bestowed upon Shaheen Samad not only acknowledges her significant contributions to the field of Nazrul Geeti but also highlights the enduring impact of her work in preserving the cultural heritage of Bangladesh.
