On May 23, 1973, Bangabandhu was awarded the 'Joliot-Curie' Peace Medal by the World Peace Council for his various contributions at the national and international levels. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Father of the Nation's 'Joliot-Curie' Peace Medal.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this prestigious award, a special programme titled ‘Kobitay Bangabandhu’ has been organized today at 5 pm at the National Music and Dance Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Recitation artist Rupa Chakraborty, the Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Abrittishilpi Sangshad has initiated the event. The programme aims to pay tribute to Bangabandhu through recitations and readings of poems.

The event will feature discussions, recitations, and performances dedicated to Bangabandhu's inspiring life and leadership.

State Minister for the Cultural Affairs Ministry KM Khalid will attend the event as the chief guest. Rupa Chakraborty expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "On the 50th anniversary of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman receiving the Julio-Curie Medal, the Bangladesh Abrittishilpi Sangshad is organising this special event exclusively dedicated to him. We aim to successfully commemorate the event with the collaboration of all involved. Through the poetic renditions in his honour, we intend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Peace Medal bestowed upon the Father of the Nation. Our sincere gratitude goes to the State Minister for Cultural Affairs and the Shilpakala Academy, among others involved in making this event possible."

The announcement of Bangabandhu receiving the Juliot-Curie Medal was made on October 10, 1972, during a meeting attended by approximately 200 members from 140 countries. The presentation ceremony took place on May 23 of the following year as Romesh Chandra, the Secretary General of the World Peace Council then, presented the medal to Bangabandhu in a grand ceremony during the Asian Peace Conference.

The peace prize of the World Peace Council was an international recognition to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to the establishment of world peace.

The Juliot-Curio Peace Prize award was the first-ever international award for Bangladesh that turned the Father of the Nation into Vishwabandhu from Bangabandhu.

World leaders like Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Yasser Arafat, Salvador Allende, Nelson Mandela, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, poet and politician Pablo Neruda, Jawaharlal Nehru, Martin Luther King, and Leonid Brezhnev were awarded the prize.
