In a groundbreaking achievement, Shams Ahmed- a Bangladeshi-American music director, has carved his name in history as the first individual of Bangladeshi descent to secure an Emmy award. The coveted accolade was bestowed upon him for his exceptional music direction in the captivating Super Bowl LVII piece titled ‘Ragged Old Flag’ at the 44th Sports Emmy Awards.

The groundbreaking announcement was made by Shams Ahmed himself, who took to his official Facebook account to share the exhilarating news with his followers and well-wishers.

Expressing his gratitude, he wrote, “To receive this award is an honour and blessing - but to be the first Bangladeshi/Bangladeshi-American to win an Emmy Award for Music Direction feels absolutely unbelievable! Thank you to everyone for your unwavering support.”

On his Instagram handle he wrote, “I’m overcome with emotion and pride for the amazing team that made this happen - for your colleagues to be brilliant collaborators and also the best friends - i feel so incredibly lucky. I actually didn’t know what to expect yesterday; I always felt like the true victory was putting a diverse group of talented young people in front of millions of Americans - and it *is*. But now, to receive this award and to be recognized for our efforts, the hard work by the kids and parents, the crew, everyone - it feels really special.”

Ahmed’s exceptional talent and dedication to his craft were recognised and celebrated at the esteemed 44th Sports Emmy Awards, where his music direction in the Super Bowl LVII piece left a lasting impression. The composition titled ‘Ragged Old Flag’ captivated audiences and earned him the prestigious Emmy accolade.

Earlier on, he posted that his Super Bowl LVII piece, ‘Ragged Old Flag’ has been nominated for an Emmy award. They were nominated in two categories - one for camera work, and the other for our direct contributions in Music Direction. Shams Ahmed worked with his team, which consists of Rachel Neubeck Ben Bram Scott Hoying on this super bowl project.
