Momotaz calls for prevention of human trafficking

Musician and lawmaker Momotaz Begom has called for the prevention of human trafficking and protection of the survivors of human trafficking.

She said this during a concert event in Cox’s Bazar beach on Saturday.

Regional band “Madal” also performed in this concert, held at Labani Point, Cox’s Bazar.

The concert was jointly organized by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and “Ashshash Project” implemented by Winrock International with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh.

Along with the music a documentary “Agun pakhi” was screened with view to promote mass awareness against human trafficking and to protect the rights of trafficking survivors.

A “Pot Gaan” about human trafficking was also performed. The documentary and “Pot Gaan” highlighted the consequence of human trafficking and the responsibility of all in prevention of human trafficking and to protect the survivors.

Such a different initiative to aware people on prevention human trafficking has received a huge response from the audience. The audience thanked the organizers for such an initiative.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran highlighted the steps taken by the government and Cox’s Bazar district administration to curb human trafficking.

Launched in 2018, Ashshash project implemented by Winrock International and Supported by Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, has been working with an aim to restore the dignity, well-being, and self-sufficiency of the human trafficking survivors by providing them with psychosocial counseling, technical-vocational skills training, entrepreneurship development, on-the-job training, and job placement support.

The project has been working in five districts including Khulna, Jashore, Satkhira, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
