10-day Film Festival set to begin June 8

A 10-day film festival is set to commemorate the remarkable 60 years of the film society movement and the momentous 50th anniversary of the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB). The Film Festival 2023 will captivate audiences with a diverse selection of films produced by the Federation over the past six decades. The opening ceremony of the festival is scheduled to take place at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on June 8.

Esteemed filmmakers Moshiuddin Shaker and Syed Salahuddin Zaki will jointly inaugurate the festival, marking a significant milestone in the country’s cinematic journey. Presided over by Kaizer Chowdhury, advisory council member of the FFSB, Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky will grace the event as the guest of honour, while Belayet Hossain Mamun, the General Secretary of the FFSB will deliver welcome speech and Eminent filmmaker Morshedul Islam will deliver congratulatory speech at the event.

The festival’s opening films will pay homage to the birth centenary of the legendary artist SM Sultan. The documentary film ‘Adam Surat,’ directed by renowned filmmaker Tareque Masud, will offer a captivating glimpse into the life and artistry of this revered figure. Additionally, the film ‘Chaka’ helmed by the talented filmmaker Morshedul Islam, will further enhance the artistic ambiance.

Film enthusiasts can look forward to a lineup of 43 films throughout the ten-day festival. The selection includes 22 feature films, 13 documentaries, and 8 short films, ensuring a diverse and enriching cinematic experience for all attendees.

To accommodate different schedules, the festival will host screenings at convenient times, with showings at 3:00 pm, 5:30 pm, and 7:30 pm.
