Johnny Depp to Donate $1m to charities

In a recent development, renowned actor Johnny Depp has announced his intention to donate a portion of his settlement in the highly publicized defamation case with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. According to a source close to Depp, he will contribute $1 million to five separate charities as a gesture of goodwill. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that each charity will receive $200,000.

The chosen beneficiaries of Depp’s philanthropy include the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance. The Make-A-Film Foundation collaborates with prominent Hollywood talents to fulfill the dreams of children with serious or life-threatening medical conditions. Notably, Depp has previously worked with the foundation on a short film. The Painted Turtle is an organization dedicated to providing transformative camp experiences for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

The inclusion of Red Feather underscores Depp’s commitment to addressing housing challenges in American Indigenous communities. This organization specializes in developing and implementing sustainable housing solutions for these communities. The Tetiaroa Society is focused on the preservation and protection of the environment, specifically the atoll of Tetiaroa in French Polynesia. Lastly, the Amazonia Fund Alliance is a collective effort by nonprofits and sustainability-driven companies dedicated to safeguarding and supporting the Indigenous communities of the Amazon rainforest.

“We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing the truth to light,” Depp’s attorneys, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez.

In an Instagram statement, Heard said she made the decision to settle to avoid yet another “arduous and expensive legal process” in which she was “unable to protect me and my right to free speech.” She also said she had exhausted “almost all my resources in advance of and during a trial.”
