McCartney embraces AI to create the last Beatles song

Legendary musician and former member of The Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney, is not one to shy away from embracing new technology. In a recent interview with BBC Radio, he discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) has been utilized to rejuvenate his voice and even resurrect the voices of his late bandmates, John Lennon and George Harrison, for an upcoming project.

McCartney revealed that a “new” Beatles track is set to be released this year. The song originated from a demo recorded by Lennon, which the surviving band members worked on to finalize. Utilizing AI technology, they were able to refine Lennon’s original vocals and achieve a pure sound. The track was subsequently mixed in the traditional manner.

Although McCartney admitted he isn’t particularly active on the internet, he acknowledged the existence of AI applications that enable Lennon to sing one of McCartney’s songs—an experience he described as “kind of scary.” The integration of AI in music production is a topic McCartney believes everyone is currently grappling with and attempting to navigate.

One notable implementation of AI was in isolating Lennon’s voice from a demo track for the Peter Jackson-directed documentary “The Beatles: Get Back” released in 2021. The series delves into the creation process behind The Beatles’ iconic 1970 album, “Let It Be.”

McCartney expressed both fascination and concern regarding AI, recognizing its positive and potentially unsettling aspects.
