32nd Shadhu Mela held at Shilpakala Academy

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised the 32nd Sadhu Mela commemorating Fakir Lalon Shah on its premises on Thursday.

The event – titled Purnima Tithir Sadhumela and hosted by Komol Khalid – started at 6pm and continued till the night, says a press release, adding that the programme featured discussions on Lalon’s philosophy, as well as performances of his songs.

The academy’s Director of Production Department Sohail Afsana delivered the welcome speech, and Cultural affairs secretary Abul Mansur attended the programme as the chief guest.

Professor of Music Department at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Zahidul Kabir participated in the discussion. The academy’s Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the event.

Among others, Latif Shah, Shafi Mondol, Somir Baul, Durgadas Baul, and Mitu Mandal performed Lalon’s mystic songs there.

At the event, Latif Shah performed Ajan khabar na janile, Somir Baul performed ‘Ek khutir par,’ Siddikur Rahman performed ‘Peyechhi ek bhanga tari,’ Tania Baul performed ‘J Jon Shissho Hoy Moner Khobor Loy’ and Miraj Khepa performed ‘Guru Goto Na Hoile Premer Premik Na Hoile.’

Apart from this, all the bauls performed some of the popular baul songs including ‘Milon Hobe Koto Dine’ together.

Shilpakala Academy organises ‘Sadhu Mela’ on ‘Purnia Tithi’ (day of the full moon) each month since 2019, commemorating the mystic poet Fakir Lalon Shah.
