36th Shadhu Mela held at Shilpakala

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised the 36th Sadhu Mela celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the Sadhu Mela on its premises on Sunday.

The event – titled Purnima Tithir Sadhumela and hosted by Abdullah Biplob – started at 6pm and continued till the night, says a press release, adding that the programme featured discussions on Lalon’s philosophy, as well as performances of his songs.

The academy’s Director of Production Department Sohail Afsana delivered the welcome speech, while Professor of Music Department at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Zahidul Kabir Liton participated in the discussion. The academy’s Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the event.

At the event, Noyon Sadhu performed Ese Modinay Torik Janai, Suborna Akter performed Dekh Dekh Monoray hoyeche, Piu Biswas performed Allah Bolo Monre Pakhi Ekbar, Sipu Rani Mondol performed Mon Amar Koshor Mora, Baul Shamim performed Guru Tomar Nam Loye and Tripti Baul performed Jene Shune koro Piriti.

Later, Manik Dewan performed Khoda Roy Adome Mishe, Khepa Bidyut Sarkar performed O Roser Prem Ghatete Haat Beriye Nao Beyona, Siddiqur Rahman performed Dutana te Bhabchi Bose, Aynal Haque Baul Mukhe Poro Sodoy Lailaha, M R Manik performed Ar Kotodin Na Jani, Farzana Islam Eva performed Kotha Jay Amar Mon Chorare, Lovely Sheikh rendered Ek Dike Rakhle Nojor and Baul Faruk Tumi Helay Ja Koro.

Among others, Somir Baul, Anima Mukti Gomej, Baul Shafi Mondol, Tuntun Fakir, Razzak Baul, Sunil Karmakar, Baul Alauddin performed Lalon’s mystic songs there.

Shilpakala Academy organises Sadhu Mela on ‘Purnia Tithi’ (day of the full moon) each month since 2019, commemorating the mystic poet Fakir Lalon Shah.
