The oath-taking and inauguration ceremony of the newly elected committee of the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh (Abhinay Shilpi Sangha) was held on Friday evening.
Afzal Hossain and Masum Aziz, two noted artistes who just won the Ekushey Padak, were also honoured at the ceremony crowded by veteran artistes, directors, and producers at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka with Chief Election Commissioner of Actors’ Equity actor Khairul Alam Sabuj in the chair.
Afterwards, representatives from several organisations including the Television Producers Association, the Makeup Artistes Association, the Shooting House Association, and the Script Writers Association greeted the elected committee members.
Ahsan Habib Nasim and Rawnak Hasan were elected president and general secretary respectively for the term 2022-2025 in the election held on January 28.
Anisur Rahman Milon, Selim Mahbub and Iqbal Babu have been elected vice-presidents respectively.
Naznin Hasan Chumki and Jamil Hossain have become the new joint general secretaries of the platform.
Other office bearers are—Saju Khadem (organising secretary), Sheikh Merajul Islam (office secretary), Rashed Mamunur Rahman Opu (event secretary), Urmila Srabanti Kar (law and welfare secretary), Pran Roy (publicity and publication secretary) and Sujat Shimul (ICT secretary).
A total of 48 candidates contested for various posts in this year’s polls while the total number of voters was 748. Of them, 642 votes were cast in the polls, of which 58 were cancelled for various reasons.
