Bangladeshi filmmaker Juboraj Shamim’s film ‘Adim’ won the ‘Best of the Fest’ award at the 12th Queens World Film Festival in Queens, New York, USA on Sunday. The director himself confirmed the news.
The film was screened on Sunday evening at the festival. Although Shamim could not attend the festival due to visa-related issues but journalist Dithi Hasnat attended the festival and represented the film on behalf of the director.
After the screening, Dithi Hasnat said that she was happy to attend the film festival and the film received a massive amount of appraisal from the audience.
Shamim is now looking forward to releasing the film in Bangladesh.
The film’s director Shamim said, “It is hard to describe the emotions behind these achievements. I am currently working on the process to release the film locally which is a complicated process. I just want to share the film with the people of my home country as soon as possible.”
“And the positive remarks the festival programmers made on my film were way more precious to me than this award was. A Bangladeshi ex-pat doctor and his family went to watch my film in New York. Their comments and excitement about ‘Adim’ were also amazing to hear as a filmmaker,” added Shamim.
Earlier, Adim won the NETPAC Award at the 44th Moscow International Film Festival.
The crowd-funded film portrays the struggles of slum dwellers. The film stars people living in a slum in Dhaka city.
The film will be taking the audience on a hyper-realistic journey in the slum blurring the line between fiction and reality.
