Jahangir Alam Rana is well known as a lyricist in Bangladesh and the UK to Bengali music lovers. At present he is working as a television presenter in London based television channel ‘Channel S’.
‘Hiya’, an original song written and composed by Jahangir Alam Rana, voiced by Nishita Barua, published on his own YouTube channel. It became one of the most popular songs of this era and the public adored the song wholeheartedly. The song has crossed 25 million views online.
About the song Jahangir Rana said, “The song ‘Hiya’ has received a lot of praise, at a time when most original songs are remakes of old songs. In the meantime folk songs are becoming popular. I am very fortunate that the song has attracted Bengali audiences. Nishita Barua did an amazing job, and she deserves more credit than me. I would also like to thank Shan, for beautiful music arrangement.”
Jahangir Rana also informed that, he wrote many modern and patriotic songs which were sung by many talented vocalists of the country including Sabina Yeasmin, late Subir Nandi, Syed Abdul Hadi, late Andrew Kishore, Shammi Akhter, Tapan Choudhury, Shakila Zafar, Rafiqul Alam, Chandana Majumder, Shubhro Dev, Anupoma Mukti, Shompa Reza. Such as Jahangir Rana wrote ‘Bangladesh Maa Amar’ sung by Sabina Yeasmin, and ‘Ei Poth Ei Nodi’ sung by Andrew Kishore, ‘Ghurechhi Koto Poth’ by Tapan Chowdhury and many more.
Along with his modern and patriotic songs, Rana has been writing Folk and Baul songs. ‘Je Rup Loiya Borai Korore Baiman’, ‘Bondhu Amar Prem Ujala’, ‘Tumi Ami Ami Tumi’, ‘Bhab Bhalana’, ‘Sharther Duniay Prem Bole Kisu Nai’, ‘Amar Kachhe Bhalobasha Ebadat’ and many famous songs established him as one of most talented and prominent lyricist of present time.
