‘The Dream of a Ridiculous Man’, a solo show by acclaimed theatre performer Jean-Paul Sermadiras, will be staged at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from today.
The show will take place at 7 pm at the academy’s Experimental Theatre Hall today, and at the same time tomorrow.
‘The Dream of a Ridiculous Man’ is an adaptation of Russian novelist and short-story writer Fyodor Dostoevsky’s short story of the same name. Subtitled as ‘A Fantastic Story’, it is an initiatory and mystic experience proposed by Dostoevsky. This adaptation explores the fine lines between dream and reality with modernity and subtlety.
Fyodor Dostoevsky, mostly known for novels like ‘Crime and Punishment’, ‘The Idiot’, ‘Demons’ and ‘The Brothers Karamazov’.
Actor and theatre artiste Jean-Paul Sermadiras earned a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Paris. He received training at Blanche Salant’s International Workshop. In 1995, he founded the Compagnie du Passage. He performed at the Avignon Festival on several occasions. On stage, he appeared in over forty plays by Molière, Shakespeare, and Chekhov throughout France as well as Morocco and India, among other places.
