Nishita Barua has her mind completely focused on music now following the completion of her post-graduation.

“I am fully dedicated to music now and will start work in full swing,” she said.

The singer recently joined the convocation ceremony of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) virtually to receive the post-graduation degree (Master of Business Administration), which was delayed by months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She attended the same academic institute for her graduation as well.

Talking about her career in music alongside academic activities, Nishita told The Business Post, “My academic journey was very tough since I had to continue music simultaneously. I had to do both.”

“It was even tougher during my graduation because I had to come to Dhaka from Chattogram to attend the recording of songs and all other work of singing projects,” she said.

“The post-graduation was comparatively easy for me because I did it in Dhaka. But I tried to complete it, after all. My father always told me that whatever you do, you must try to finish it,” said the singer.

Nishita shared that she is not sure whether she can go for any higher degree in the future as she has to concentrate more on music.

“Now I will try to invest more of my time in music, which I could not do before due to my studies. I had to compromise on both. After the post-graduation, I am feeling a bit relieved now,” she said.

The singer further said she had to abandon many shows and concerts in and outside the country for the sake of studies. Nishita, who tied the knot in February this year amid the pandemic, finds that the new chapter has not brought any striking changes in her life.

“Getting married is a part of life and I do not see any remarkable changes that happened to me after it,” she shared. The singer said she will be spending very busy time soon performing in stage shows as the peak season of the year is already around the corner.

She said several of her forthcoming works will be coming out gradually on the YouTube channels of various music platforms soon, for which music videos have also been prepared.

It has been around 15 years since Nishita launched her career in singing through the 2006 edition of reality TV show CloseUp 1.

Talking about the changes in the music industry she has observed over the years, she said, “When we stepped into the industry in 2006, we got a golden age of music in its ending. It was still the period of CDs. Now people do not buy CDs anymore. They listen to songs on social media. A massive technological change has happened.”

“With this change, we lost a golden period of music which is obviously a great loss. One remarkable change I saw in recent times is that everyone is becoming more conscious about ensuring property rights and music royalties. Perhaps, we will reap the outcome in near future,” she said.

Talking about the new generation of singers, Nishita feels that now there are plenty of media to publish music but sustaining amidst such a wide array of new media is the most important thing.

“If anyone emerges through social media, digital platforms, or any talent hunt competition today, that is fine, but what is important is to sustain in music. The competition to sustain is harder than the race in the hunting contests. What they need to do is continue the devotion for music,” the singer concluded.
