Renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer Anima Roy once again lent her voice for playback in a film directed by filmmaker Abdus Samad Khokon.
Titled ‘Shrabon Josnai’, the movie is an adaptation of novelist Imdadul Haq Milan’s novel of the same name.
‘Shrabon Josnai’, along with 19 other films, won the government grants in the fiscal year 2020-21.
The film has a few of Anima’s rendition of Rabindra Sangeet based on the contexts of love, nature and devotion.
Anima also recorded her songs at a studio in the capital city, she informed.
Talking to The Business Post on Friday, Anima Roy said, “I am very delighted to work on this project. The music arrangement was wonderful. All of the songs were done with acoustic music. We are very blessed to have all the reputed instrumentalists in the country in this collaboration,”
“Milton Khandaker is behind the music direction in cooperation with Binod Roy. We are trying to execute something very wonderful. I have lent voice to three of the tracks,” added Anima.
“Director Abdus Samad Khokon is a great personality. I was amazed by his level of dedication and involvement in the music arrangement and recording of the songs. He wanted to make sure that the quality of Rabindra Sangeet in the film is ensured,” she said.
Anima said it’s a matter of great regret that Rabindra Sangeet is mostly absent in films. “The great poet is relevant in every sphere of life and cinema is the largest medium to reach the masses. The thoughts of Rabindranath can be reached out to the new generation by using more and more Rabindra Sangeet in movies, I think,” she said.
Anima feels that the upcoming film ‘Shrabon Josnai’ will set an example to motivate filmmakers to use Tagore songs in movies. “It is going to be the very first film in Bangladesh based on the songs of Rabindranath,” she said.
The singer hinted that the story of ‘Shrabon Josnai’ revolves around a family of artistes and music.
“The more we can use Tagore songs in playback, apart from the regular modern songs, the more viewers will be attracted,” she added.
“I salute director Samad because he brought all the best people in the music team for the playback in ‘Shrabon Josnai,’” Anima said further
The film will also have a Nazrul Sangeet expected to be sung by singer Priyanka Gope and also a folk song.
Having a total of eight Rabindra Sangeet albums to her credit, the singer earlier did playback in the films ‘Leader’, ‘Aami Kamala’ and Tollywood’s ‘Reunion’.
‘Shrabon Josnai’ director Abdus Samad Khokon informed that he was scheduled to begin shooting of the film from October 15. The film stars Prarthana Fardin Dighi in a lead role.
