Today marks the first death anniversary of prominent litterateur Rabeya Khatun, who passed away at the age of 85, on December 3 last year.
The versatile author has more than 50 novels and over 400 short stories to her credit. Rabeya also wrote literary pieces like travelogues, teen novels and memoirs as well, in her illustrious career spanning over 60 years.
After launching her career with short stories, Rabeya Khatun shot to fame as a novelist with publishing her first novel, titled ‘Madhumati’, in 1963.
Her husband, late ATM Fazlul Haque was the editor of cine magazine ‘Cinema’ and director of teen film ‘President’. Her eldest son Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of private television channel Channel i, is also a writer and film producer and her eldest daughter Keka Ferdousi is a prominent culinary artist.
Marking Rabeya’s first death anniversary, Channel i will organise a remembrance event and special prayers today. On December 27 last year, the TV channel celebrated the late novelist’s birthday with special arrangements. On that day, warm clothes and gift materials were distributed among underprivileged people at the Channel i premises in the capital, on behalf of Rabeya Khatun Smriti Parishad.
Born on December 27, 1935, in Bikrampur, Rabeya Khatun was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973, Ekushey Padak in 1993 and Independence Day Award in 2017 for her contributions in Bengali literature.
Her novels include ‘Saheb Bazar’, ‘Rajarbagh Shalimarbagh’, ‘Mon Ek Shwet Kapoti’ and ‘Ananta Anwesha’.
