Sabina Yasmin to spend birthday at home

Today marks the birthday of Sabina Yasmin, one of the legendary singers of Bangladesh. “I will spend my birthday at home. I do not have any special plans for my birthday. My daughter and some of my friends will visit my house. There will be attempts to celebrate the day, especially at home. And now it’s extreme heat. It is very difficult to go out this summer. That’s why I do not attend any television programme on this birthday. I want everyone’s prayer that God keeps me healthy and well”, Sabina told The Business Post when asked about her plans for her birthday.

“When my birthday comes, I miss my father, mother, and sisters. But after getting everyone’s love, I am trying to forget that pain. I used to hide new clothes for Eid. I used to do the same on my birthday. I used to take out these clothes on my birthday. The joy was different that time”, she added regarding her birthday.

Born on September 4 in 1953, Sabina Yasmin, best known as a playback singer, the National Film Award-winning artiste has already lent her vocal to more than 10000 songs in her career. Coming from a culturally rich family, Sabina won the hearts of millions of audiences with her melodious singing style.

Sabina Yasmin as a child artiste sang for the first time in the Ehtesham-directed film ‘Natun Sur’ in 1962. She made her playback debut with the song ‘Modhu Jyotsna Dipali’ in the film ‘Agun Niye Khela’ in 1967.

Her third playback song titled ‘Shudhu Gaan Geye Porichoy’ with Altaf Mahmud was a major hit. Since then, she didn’t have to look back.

Following the hit track ‘Shudhu Gaan Gaye Porichoy,’ her songs with Khan Ataur Rahman, such as ‘Eki Shonar Aloy Jibon Voriye Dile’ and ‘Osru Diye Lekha,’ were also well received by the audience. Many of the songs in her voice gained popularity after the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Over the years, she has worked with several best composers, including legendary RD Burman, in Bangladesh and India. She gradually performed along with Satya Saha, Subal Das, Khan Ataur Rahman, Ali Hossain, Alauddin Ali, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, and Gazi Mazharul Anwar.

Alongside receiving the Ekushey Award in 1984 and Independence Award in 1996, Sabina Yasmin won the National Film Award 13 times till now. She won her first National Film Award for the film ‘Sujon Sokhi’ in 1975.

Sabina Yasmin was born to Lutfur Rahman and Mouluda Khatun in 1953. She was the youngest among her Farida Yasmin, Fauzia Yasmin and Nilufar Yasmin.
