Filmmaker Masud Hasan Ujjal’s highly-anticipated first feature film ‘Unoponchash Batash’ is releasing in the US and Canada in November, around one year after the film was released locally amid the Covid-19 scare in October 2020.
The film featuring Imtiaz Barshon and Sharlin Farzana in the lead roles will be commercially screened at 14 movie theatres in the US and Canada from November 19.
Along with two other theatres in New York city, the film will be screened at the AMC Empire Cinema in Times Square. It will be first-ever screening of a Bangladeshi film at the prestigious movie theatre in the US.
Talking to The Business Post on Saturday, director Ujjal said that they are going to release the film in the US and Canadian theatres after they receiving a very positive response from the Bangladeshi immigrants.
‘Unoponchash Batash’ was theatrically released in Bangladesh on October 23 last year, following the reopening of halls amid the pandemic. Ujjal feels that the film bears the same appeal and still remains a new film to those who are yet to watch it.
“It’s a new addition for us that ‘Unoponchash Batash’ is going to be screened in AMC Empire at Times Square. This will open a wonderful chapter to our films,” actress Sharlin Farzana told The Business Post.
“The film is tremendously lucky for me. My first baby and ‘Unoponchash Batash’ came out together. After getting involved with this film, luck always favours me,” she said.
The actress, who is currently on a break, said she expects to resume works from this December.
‘Unoponchash Batash’ earlier bagged the International Jury Award at the 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) and brought Ujjal the Best Director Award at the Rainbow Film Festival in London this year.
Produced under the banner of Red October, ‘Unoponchash Batash’ has its story, direction, dialogue, screenplay, art direction and music done by Masud Hasan Ujjal. It marks actor Imtiaz Barshon’s cinematic debut.
Ujjal informed The Business Post that he has a plan to arrange the film’ s screening for university students by the end of this year as they have already started returning to campuses with the reopening of educational institutes.
The director is currently working on his second feature film, of which he declined to reveal anything at this moment.
